Network Troubleshooting Guide

Destiny is an online shared-world shooter that requires an internet connection to play

  • Interruptions to your network connection may cause your experience to be impacted, and may cause a loss of connection to Destiny.

For the best possible experience, your network should be configured to allow the optimal connection to Destiny

  • Destiny creates connections between your console, Bungie’s servers, and other players in a unique way. Network performance in other games and applications is often not a good indicator that you are set up to get the best Destiny experience.

  • We recommend that you enable UPnP on your home network, or configure Port Forwarding on your router if necessary.

A steady connection is required when playing Destiny. For the best Destiny experience, wired internet provides the best connection whereas WiFi may lead to issues.

  • While Destiny can be played with a strong and stable WiFi connection, many players have found that using WiFi can increase the likelihood that they will lose their connection to Destiny’s services.

  • Many things can impact the reliability of your WiFi connection: other WiFi networks in the area, other WiFi-capable devices, and even common household appliances.

  • Whenever possible, try switching to a wired connection, even if only temporarily. This is an important first troubleshooting step to rule out WiFi as the cause of connection issues.

Destiny requires sufficient bandwidth to function at an optimal level

  • Bungie respects that some players do not have unlimited bandwidth. Destiny aims to be as efficient as possible when transmitting and receiving data.

  • While average usage is considerably lower, Destiny may request up to 1 Mbps download and upload bandwidth.

  • Other applications on your network, such as streaming video, file sharing, or other bandwidth-intensive services may have a negative impact on your Destiny gameplay.

A Playstation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription may be required to participate in multiplayer activities. This includes activities such as Strikes, Raids, and the Crucible.
